Market leader of highly precise robot solutions

Efficient work in Closed Loop in design, installation and quality testing.

If measurement methods are reproducible, then measurement results are comparable

Based on this credo, Battenberg invented high-precision measurement robotics. Battenberg measurement robotics have been used for over 30 years worldwide for quality testing of complex automotive interior components.

Battenberg robotic systems are easy to program, freely configurable and quickly reconfigured. Battenberg offers a broad pallet of additional adaptable measurement technology and special tools. Battenberg robotics are also established in climate chambers, production lines and in assembly.

1.

Virtual Functional Twin

Battenberg expands the conventional digital twin of the automotive components to the specification of the functions, that is the forces, torques, displacements and angles occurring in use. Thus test and assembly sequences are so precisely simulated virtually, that the virtual programming can be transferred directly to the actual robot. The actual measured values can again be mirrored back in the digital functional twin.

2.

Moving & measuring High precision in real time

The force/torque measuring head is located on the robot flange, which is equipped with a tool adapter plate. The test tool matching the DUT (Device under Test) is supplied for each test job. The Battenberg robot software RobFlow can be programed easily using Drag & Drop and freely configured. Interfaces to other measurement technology, such as camera, laser, electrical measurement cards, scanner, etc., as well as to bus systems, production and lab management systems are available as options. During the test sequence the test robot activates the DUT and draws the measurement curves.

3.

Analyzing Measurement values comparable

Using Battenberg measurement robotics you only create a test sequence once. The test robots always find the current position of the DUT again independently and reproduce the measurement sequence. The measurement results are comparable from location to location over time. The measurement robotics software RobReport for automated report generation create test protocols, which can be individually configured.

Customized solutions

Portfolio of the measurement robotics

scalable, freely configurable, quickly reconfigured, multiple tools and measurement technology can be adapted

Functional digital twin

Store the forces, torques, displacements and angles in the digital twin of a component and virtually test robot programming. Transfer the program directly into the actual robot system. This results in virtual test specifications or assembly programming.

Virtual measurement robotics

The Battenberg test robotics control RobFlow offers an interface to the virtual measurement robotics. Various robot arms, sensors and tools can be configured. Import the 3D data of your DUT (device under test) and virtually program your measuring sequences, which can then be executed on actual Battenberg test robots across all locations.

Door, tailgate & engine hood

Whether in the lab or in production, Battenberg measurement robotics localizes the position of the grip automatically and opens or closes vehicle doors and hatches reproducibly. Door braking curves, closing forces or closing and opening energy – reproducible measuring sequences lead to comparable measurement results.

Vehicle seat

Battenberg seat test robots carry out comfort testing, entering and exiting tests, seat functions and backset measurements. Automatic tool changers, rotary tables and the import of 3D seat models with test coordinates increase the efficiency of the Battenberg seat test. Once measured seats can be repositioned at any time and the test robotics continues the test sequence or reproduces it.

Measurement robotics in the climatic chamber

Battenberg climate robots have climatized force and torque sensors, in order to keep the sensor calibration stable even with fluctuations in temperature. Whether in the 1200 L chamber, as front section of a climate chamber, as flexible installation in a vibration climate chamber or a walk-in climate chamber – Battenberg has the right solution.

Cockpit & instrument panel

Material rigidity, strength, gap measurements, surface geometry and quality supported assembly are typical tasks. Battenberg compensates the elasticity of the robot arm through mathematic methods and reference bodies and thus achieves highly precise measurement results. Also use the Battenberg high precision technology for gap measurements or gap optimization during assembly.

Air vent

The force-displacement curves of the louver toggles and thumbwheels are typical measurement robotics tasks. From the laboratory facility to the End-of-Line test, Battenberg supplies the right system. Special tools for recessed thumbwheels and test sequences for active surfaces are available optionally.

Button & rotary knob

Typical measurement results are the force-displacement curve when pressing and releasing a button, as well as the torque-angle curve when activating a rotary knob. DUT messages from the bus system can be recorded during the measuring sequence in true time. Battenberg measurement robots are used for specification of prototypes, misuse tests, in test vehicles, continuous running and series production tests.

Steering wheel & steering column

Buttons, horn, rotary disks or takeover function for approaching or touching the hand – Battenberg measurement robotics offers comprehensive robot supported quality tests for steering wheels. The Battenberg robot hand can be equipped with further sensor technology.

Light density & color

Battenberg robots position measuring heads with camera and laser exactly at the desired distance and angle onto the measurement object. Image processing software for the detection of position or for image comparison can be integrated in the measuring sequence.

Steering column switch

For correct measuring of a steering column switch the points of application of force can be calculated in the CAD model and transferred into the measurement robotics.

Gear selector switch

Battenberg constructs a special tool to actuate each type of gear selection switch. The expansion of the test robotics with electrical measurement cards and CAN/LIN or CANoe bus systems is offered optionally. Gear selection switch tests are possible in the lab, in the climatic chamber and in production.

Console & flap

Center consoles, rear consoles, glove compartment, sun visor or folding tables - Battenberg offers test robots with various arm lengths for continuous running and rigidity tests.

Quality optimized assembly & production

Battenberg robots carry out individual assembly steps so that the quality features of the end product, as for example a gap dimension or a force-displacement curve can be achieved thanks to real-time regulated robot control. Another task is the time-optimized quality test of the finished product in the production line.

Capacitive surface & Touch Display

Flat or curved capacitive surfaces can be tested with the capacitive measuring finger, the two-finger tool or the force-feedback measuring finger. Additional measurement technology such as camera and laser can be adapted. Battenberg offers configurable measurement programs for quality tests such as linearity, pixel accuracy, jitter, reaction speed, light density, color or menu control.

Hand & finger gestures

Human hand and finger gestures can be translated easily and immediately into robot hand movements. The robot hand can grip and is equipped with distance sensors. Each hand movement and hand position in the space in front of the measured object can be reproduced, even if the position of the measurement object changes.

Ultrasonic welding point test

The high precision ultrasonic test of a welding point is done in a matter of seconds with Battenberg ROBOTICS. The robot guides the ultrasonic sensor head to the welding point and control the position for optimum measurement. During this, obstacles are detected and high speeds are reached. The robot-assisted welding point test is a sophisticated technical and economical solution.

Rigidity & buckling strength

Depending on the arm position, the various elasticities of the robot arms influence the measurement results of the rigidity tests of center consoles or cockpits. Battenberg compensates the elasticity values of the robot arms depending on the arm position and offers a specific procedure with reference bodies. Virtually, in CAD or 3D data, hundreds of measuring points can be taught at one time and be located automatically by the measurement robotics on the actual console. This method saves users much time with increased precision.
